Aim. Is to analyze the characteristics of child morbidity in the post-COVID period using measles and pertussis as examples, as well as to identify factors contributing to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation.
Material and methods. A retrospective analysis of the epidemiological situation regarding measles and pertussis incidence in the Orel Region over a ten-year period (2015–2024) was conducted. The information base consisted of official statistical data presented in the State Reports "On the State of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare of the Population in the Russian Federation" and specialized reports for the Orel Region.
Result. The article examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the healthcare system and describes non-specific anti-COVID measures and their consequences for routine vaccination. The causes of declining immunization coverage, including the intensification of the anti-vaccination movement, are analyzed. The formation of a non-immune layer (susceptible population) among children is demonstrated. Data are presented on population immunization coverage and the rise in the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases globally, in the Russian Federation, and in the Orel Region.
Conclusion. To stabilize the situation, it is necessary to conduct catch-up immunization, strengthen public information campaigns, and improve the epidemiological surveillance system.
