Introduction. Foreign bodies inadvertently left in the abdominal cavity during surgery are a relevant problem in surgery and are relatively rare complications of surgical interventions.
Case description. The article describes the clinical observation of gossypiboma of the abdominal cavity based on the materials of the surgical department of the Krasnozorenskaya CRH of the Oryol region. Patient M., aged 27, complained of pain in the right iliac region, fever up to 38 degrees. Upon examination, a dense infiltrate the size of a fist, sedentary, is palpated in the right iliac region. Other parts of the abdomen were calm at the time of examination. When collecting the medical history, it was noted that one month before the treatment, he was operated on in another area for destructive appendicitis. An examination was conducted, detoxification and antibacterial therapy were prescribed. As a result of the evaluation of laboratory research data and the clinical picture, it was decided to perform surgery. An incision was made in the right iliac region along the appendicular scar. A small amount of serous effusion was detected in the abdominal cavity. A dense infiltration was palpated in the pelvic cavity. During its revision, an abscess was opened, in the cavity of which the edge of a gauze napkin was found. The cavity was drained with a swab and a root rod, along with a napkin inserted into the cavity, the left swab in the cavity of the abscess was removed. Toilet cavities, revision, there is no data for acute intestinal obstruction, the intestines are calm.
Conclusion. The abscess cavity was drained with a rubber strip and a PVC tube. The surgical wound was sutured in layers and an aseptic bandage was applied. The postoperative period was uneventful. After the drainage was removed, the patient was discharged from the surgical department in a satisfactory condition for outpatient observation and treatment at the place of residence.
